Only in my wildest dreams did I imagine that when I first met Christina nearly a decade ago and was inspired by her vision for CDN, I would find myself working alongside her on the cusp of the organization’s 10th Anniversary.

My name is Krystle Samai and I am thrilled to be joining the CDN team as Director of Mission & Community Impact. I've lived with type 1 diabetes for 25 years and have spent the majority of my career in the diabetes non-profit and tech space.

You might be wondering what exactly my title means. Well, after the past 3 weeks on the job, I can confidently tell you that I have the pleasure of working with our fabulous staff to create programs that provide support and address the unique needs of young adults living with diabetes, as well as develop strategies to grow our Chapter Network. I am also responsible for ensuring that CDN’s activities are delivering on our promise to support young people to lead more connected and empowered lives.

My involvement with the diabetes community runs deep. I first attended Bearskin Meadow Camp with my family the year after my diagnosis at age 9. I later returned as a camp counselor during the summers while I was in college at UC Berkeley and haven’t looked back. Since graduating, I worked for Medtronic Diabetes, Asante Solutions (former makers of the Snap insulin pump), DYF (the organization that operated that same summer camp), as well as Carb DM.

In my free time, I enjoy hiking and going backpacking with my dog, traveling to faraway places where I can learn about different cultures and cuisine (ask me about when I lived in India and washed 80 children’s laundry in the Ganges River!), and participating in every clinical research study I can; living on the West Coast has its perks!

All that to say is -- this opportunity to work at CDN to deeply engage with, and empower, young adults with diabetes to live the lives of their dreams, is especially meaningful to me.

I’m beyond excited to get to know the CDN community and to be a part of such a dedicated, skilled, and passionate team of people.
