My name is Rafael Treviño and I am super excited and thankful to be one of CDN’s summer interns! I am from Houston, Texas. I have just finished my first year at Harvard University, where I am pursuing a degree in bioengineering with a minor in economics on the pre-med track. I definitely hope to do research on the cure for diabetes and possibly get my M.D. to practice pediatric endocrinology.
Type 1 diabetes has been a huge part of my life ever since I was diagnosed only 4 years ago at the tail end of my freshman year of high school. I have made it my mission to immerse myself in all industries that seek to provide valuable services to diabetics around the country. I have worked as a blogger for the T1D Exchange and perform clinical research at Joslin Diabetes Center. My goal is to make the experience of having T1D better for the new onsets that will follow me!
In my free time, I enjoy practicing the viola (which I have done for 8 years), playing soccer, and performing stand-up comedy in Boston. More often than not, you can find me either outside walking along the Charles River, writing jokes or inside watching any and all sports programming.
I love hearing about people’s journeys with diabetes, especially those who have lived with the disease for far longer than I have. Please feel free to reach out to chat, offer me some tips, talk about any sport, or offer me suggestions on good comedy programming at firstname.lastname@example.org!
