David Schechter is currently the Global Brand Leader for Diabetes at Merck. The Diabetes Franchise represents a significant amount of Merck's annual global sales and is an essential contributor to Merck's growth strategy.With more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, David has a deep understanding of global markets and extensive experience working successfully with many different customers, ranging from consumers and physicians to the large payers. Since August 2012, David has been the Global Brand Leader for Diabetes, during which time the Franchise has continued to grow, with the current product becoming the largest selling molecule in Merck’s history.
Prior to his current appointment, David was the Global Brand Leader for Respiratory. Before Respiratory, David served in a variety of marketing and sales roles. David led launches of a number of products including the launch of GARDASIL. In 2008 David’s son was diagnosed with Type I diabetes driving his passion to have an impact on diabetes. David received his BS in Economics and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Delaware, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
