What is College Diabetes Week?
Description

College Diabetes Week is a way to celebrate young adults living with type 1 diabetes in college through diabetes advocacy, education, and fundraising. It specifically highlights our national Chapter network and showcases the hard work our student-led CDN Chapters do in serving their communities.

Why participate in College Diabetes Week?

  • It is an opportunity to let the world know what it is like to have T1D
  • Let people know about CDN and T1D
  • To have fun and bond (virtually) with Chapter members and your community
  • Raise funds for CDN's Chapters and Resources
This year’s theme for College Diabetes Week is all about peer support
  • During College Diabetes Week, we will be asking you to share your stories about peer support. Participation is as easy as making a social media post using #CDW20. Post a pic, video, Insta reel - whatever helps you share your story.
  • We also encourage you to change your Chapter or personal social media images to the ones we will provide this fall.

What Do You Mean by Peer Support?
Description
We talk about peer support a lot at CDN. It is that feeling of knowing there are other people who understand what a low blood sugar feels like - and how you can't always just eat a snack and get moving again. It's being around lots of beeping devices and having no one bat an eye (except to see if that is their alarm). It is having a diabestie who you can turn to when everything diabetes is feeling too much.

We have seen the power in peer support over our last ten years as an organization. The joy and relief that comes from being with others who are also managing a chronic illness with everything else a young adult has going on.

We want you to give the shout-out your peer support system deserves - be it one person, your whole CDN Chapter, or a T1D sibling! Tell us through your videos, social media posts, and blogs about how peer support has made you a happy and healthier person. Don't know where to start? We can help! We will be posting prompts as we get closer to College Diabetes Week.
