My name is Emily, and I am thrilled to be joining The College Diabetes Network (CDN) as the newest Program Assistant! I will be working primarily with the Midwest chapters, Campus Programs, and the CDN Ambassador Program!
I was diagnosed with T1D at age 11 and have been heavily involved in the T1D community ever since. During the summer following my diagnosis, I attended summer camp through the American Diabetes Association. I have attended, worked, and volunteered at diabetes summer camps every year since my diagnosis. Some of my very best friends and greatest relationships were formed through T1D, and I knew that this was a community in which I wanted to always be involved.
Originally, I am from Indianapolis, Indiana and I attended Purdue University where I earned my B.S. in Coordinated Dietetics. Additionally, I completed my dietetic internship through Purdue and went on to earn my licensing as a Registered Dietitian (RD) in August of 2018. During my freshman year at Purdue, my friend and I had learned about CDN through a staff member at the American Diabetes Association. We immediately wanted to become a part of this organization. However, we found out that there was no existing CDN Chapter. This prompted my friend and I to start the Purdue Chapter (DiaBeat It) in 2014. I attended the leadership retreats in 2014 and 2015 through CDN as well. Ever since starting the Chapter, people in the T1D community have been able to form and keep connections with one another.
When the opportunity presented itself to work with CDN in an area that I was passionate about, I had to take full advantage. I am ecstatic to be working with and empowering young adults in the T1D community as they become leaders and members of a network with limitless possibilities. I’m beyond grateful to continue my journey with CDN and can’t wait to get to know all of you!
